We know moving is stressful. So here are 7 tips to make your move significantly less stressful!
1. Have a donation box at the ready.
Moving is a great time to clear out a bunch unwanted stuff you don’t use anymore. It’s a good idea to have specific boxes or bags set up to put items you want to donate or through away while packing. Or at least a good corner to toss everything in!
2. Color code your labels.
Most people helping you move, professional or not, won’t know the layout of your new house. Labeling your boxes with specific colors and then labeling the rooms in your house with those colors will make sure all your boxes get to the right room in an efficient manner. Plus, people will stop asking you, “Where does this one go again?”, every 3 minutes.
3. Use Simply Box’d.
You can save a ton of time on building boxes and dealing with packing tape by using Simply Box’d. Did you know that it is actually more cost and time effective to rent durable moving totes over buying cardboard boxes? You can view our article comparing the two here! Simply Box’d offers free delivery and pick up to fit your busy schedule and will take a lot of stress out of your move.
4. Load your important items first.
When loading your moving truck put the items you use most in the truck first. When you unload the truck, your less important items will be brought into your home and placed at the bottom of the stack while your important items are on top and easy to get.
5. Tell your movers to put boxes in the center of the room.
Putting boxes in the center of the room keeps them out of the way of furniture that will be placed against the walls. This also makes it easier to get to all of your boxes while unpacking. The main take away from this tip is to think about the layout of the room so you don’t have to move things twice.
6. Use a professional moving company.
You and your friend may be good at packing and moving, but the professionals are better. If you are looking to get things done extra fast and minimize the amount of lifting you do, a professional moving company is the way to go.
7. Unpack and make your bed first.
Moving makes everyone really, really tired. And trust us, you don’t want to deal with unpacking and making your bed at the end of the day after you’ve just spent 12 hours lifting heavy boxes. To make the first evening in your new home a relaxing one you should try to set up your bed while you still have energy.
Following these tips will make your move a stress free breeze. Just make sure to think about where you want everything to go and how it’s going to get there. As always, if you need any more advice on how to make this move your best, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help!
